Prison Break: Lane Garrison Gets 40 Months in Jail
Former Prison Break cast member Lane Garrison was sentenced yesterday to 40 months in prison, stemming from a drunk driving episode last December that resulted in the death of a teenage passenger. Although Garrison’s legal team was pushing for Garrison to be released on probation, the judge handed out his 40-month sentence with no complaints from Garrison’s legal team. They have no plans to appeal the sentence.
On Saturday, December 2, Lane Garrison left a party with two 15-year old passengers and one 17-year old, a student at Beverly Hills High named Vahagn Setian. They passengers had been driving around Beverly Hills, looking to buy alcohol. They eventually did, but soon after Garrison lost control of his SUV and jumped the curb, hitting a tree. Setian was killed in the accident. Garrison was later found to have a blood alcohol level of .20, almost three times the legal limit. He also tested positive for cocaine.
Garrison could have been sentenced to over six years in prison, but Judge Elden Fox didn’t think that was unnecessary. Addressing the court, Fox told Garrison, “I think you are ultimately a decent human being who made a very bad mistake…[and] that crime resulted in the devastation to at least three different families.”
Garrison may actually only serve around 20 months in prison. He will get credit for 90 days which he’s already spent in behind bars, and will likely get a few months knocked off for good behavior. This was obviously a tragic situation, and one that deserves justice, so it’s nice to see a Hollywood actor actually spend some significant time in jail. Interpreting the words of Garrison’s lawyers, it seemed that they did not want to fight the charges or the sentence and that Garrison was truly and deeply remorseful and wanted to serve his time with dignity.
